3 x G12M greenback pulsonic score.

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

3 x G12M greenback pulsonic score.

Hi everyone.

The other day I went to look (and buy) a Danish made 3x12" cabinet by the brand 'Max':

Well the guy bought this cab new in 1971 and he knew it had Celestion greenback G12M in it and he was right:

It seems the speakers have a transitional label which only was used in the first months of 1971 and the date codes on the frames is DD6 which fits in with this, as these indicates 6. of April 1971:

The construction should be 'pulsonic' and the cone codes '102 003' also fits this, right?
This is the first time I have ever tried G12M's with pulsonic codes and I must say these sounds very good compared to my RI greenbacks (with 6402 cone codes) in my 1960TV cab! I'm planning on using these in the 1960TV (still using one RI G12M), and for the Max cabinet, I have another plan:
Using 2 x G12H30 16 ohms in parallel (8 ohms) and these in series with 1 Celestion Gold 8 ohm, making the cab a 16 ohm cabinet which should be able to handle 90 watts - is this correct or is it a bad idea?
The Max cabinet is marked as a 4 ohms cabinet, but this is crap! I meassure about 12 ohms resistans - doesn't that indicate 2 x 16 ohms in series (32 ohm) and then the last speaker (16 ohm) in parallel with these? Well I think they didn't care much about these things in 1971 anyway...

I have only seen about 3 or 4 Max-cabinets (in Denmark (Flemming?) and Sweden), but they are something to look out for! This cab also came with an amp which should have been somekind of a Vox clone (the logo also looks a little like a Vox-logo anyway), but the guy had thrown it away years ago.... It could have been interesting to have a look inside that too...

you wouldnt be interested in selling one of those speakers would you?

I have a 4x12 cab with the exact same speakers in it with DD date code! but one of my speakers has had a cone repair, it would be great if i could swap it for an undamaged one.

those are basically pre-rola speakers just with a different sticker on the back.

Hi, I can see your dilema! and I'll think about it, but I'm not sure I'll part with them just yet...
