Who could identify these Fane drivers...

Postby Haico on Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:17 am

Hey guys,

I'm looking for more info on these puppies.

They seem to be Fane 12"ers, 4 Ohm with a whizzer cone... I got these in a Marshall 1960A guitar cabs, obviously these aren't the stock drivers. 3 of them looked like the one with the bolt in the magnet, only 1 of them has a label.

I tried them on guitar once. They had way too much highs... I think these would be better for bass. I've been told that these might come from a Hiwatt bass cabinet (SE320???). Can anyone here confirm this?

Any advise is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

ps. I already sent an e-mail to Fane. They are sssssllllllloooooowwwwwww. 8)

Most likely PA speakers.

Are they worth selling? What would they be worth??
Other options:
- Build a bass cab around them.
- Cut out the whizzer cone and see if they work for distorted guitar.

they are not a HIWATT fane, most likely a PA speaker.
There is little, if any demand for them.
If you are lucky enough to own a Vintage HIWATT, you are lucky enough...

Maybe. Whizzer cones were compromised attempts at extending the high frequency range. As already mentioned, yours were originally intended for PA or Organ reproduction in a non-Hiwatt enclosure. They look to have been produced in the 80's.

I'm not aware of anyone using 4 ohm speakers in that era (most notable 4 ohm usage was in Thomas Organ Vox amps, back in the 60's).
