Tube suggestion for Reeves Custom 50 (Hiwatt DR504 Clone)

Hi there,

Please help me to nail down relatively affordable tube selection for Reeves Custom 50 (Hiwatt DR504 clone).
So far, power tube JJ 6CA7
Pre (managed to get 2x Mullard NOS 12AX7, 2x NOS Tesla ECC803s). Can I just use these ones?
If so which one goes first ECC803s for V1, then Mullards for V2 and V3 or
Mullards for V1, Mullard or ECC803s for V2, ECC803s for V3?
I like to tame the super hot higher mid-range and high frequency. I like high frequency but tame and sweet, with round sound, good low-mids, and basically overall smooth , but not dull of course. Expressive but not harsh or aggressive.
Anyone has experience with NOS Tesla ECC803s. If so, how do you compare it with Mullard NOS 12AX7? These are Blackburn version.

Thanks a lot,

Arya

I'm using all Mullard NOS pre-amp glass in mine, including the 12at7.

Using NOS Tesla EL34 and the results are *fantastic*

I was using TAD EL34B and those were pretty good, the Tesla's just added another layer of compression and harmonics that are just *mind numbing*

My pre-amp glass is all labeled either rogers or hammond, which are mullards, but sell for less on eBay. The tesla's of course are labeled tesla, a bit faded, but legible...

The ability to play/make music is a gift that not everyone gets. Those of us who have it should use it.

I have a DR103. I have had Harma valves in it for years. I recently got some nos GE preamp valves and a set of nos EL34 Telas. As the previous poster said, mind numbing. It's like I had never heard a Hiwatt before. Big bucks but tone and responsiveness wise there's no other option. Sell another guitar or amp to get these, honest!
