But aren't you two guys talking about two completely different amps - ie Hiwatt and Marshall JCM900???

I know - and I've seen the pictures too. :D But the DR112 certainly doesn't need any diodes snipped out, and the photos from a "Hiwatt" Lead 50/100 aren't going to help you decide which diodes to snip out from your JCM900!

Hello!

I'd like to ask for your help. First of all, sorry for my english.

I just got a Hiwatt Lead 50 head, same as Mweetman. It is nearly the original state, the only thing that has been changed is one resistor, and can't decide it's on the good value, or not. I would like to check it to make sure it's all ok. Can somebody help me to recognise that ? I circled it on the picture.

Thanks for any help :)

I looked at the images sent to me by another kind user. The resistor should be 100K Ohms. The colour code is brown, black, yellow, then maybe gold. Gold is the resistor tolerance, gold means 5%, but the tolerance may be different, it won't matter much. The resistor next to it is also a 100K.
I can't make out what yours is from the picture.
Hope this helps.

Hey mweetman,

I have Lead 100 and I want to mod the OD-Channel EQ to the classic Hiwatt tone control.

Since there are no values on the Lead schematic I'm having a hard time finding the values I have to change.

Could you help me out and tell me what components you've changed?

Thanks,

Moeriki

Hiya, great thread mweetman :-)
Just to add, I've also just bought one of these and can't tell where the PI and reverb driver go... Help from summa you would be great! Also looking at the board there seem to be some components missing... You wouldn't happen to have anything kicking around with stock values mentioned would you?

Ta!

Interesting thread. I just recently got a Lead 100R. It is also my first Hiwatt amp. I'm going to get it returned and I looked at it and found that there are five tube in the preamp state. Four of them are 12AX7s and one a 12AT7. The picture that mirroman posted earlier of his Lead 100 tells me that the fifth tube in mine is actually a reverb driver, so I bought a replacement 12AT7 with the rest of the tubes. I love the clean channel but can't seem the get the dirty channel to sound good. I think I might look into getting the diodes in that taken out like everybody on this thread is talking about.
Another thing I find weird about this amp is that it shuts off the reverb when I use the effects loop. It won't even let me turn it back on with the footswitch! I'm not sure if it is supposed to be that way or what... I'm going to have my tech look into that when I get it biased. I just got the new tubes.
My amp is probably a mid to late 80s Hiwatt if anyone is wondering.
