Square magnet Eminences in my cab.

Postby Noel on Wed Jan 22, 2003 6:45 pm

Just bought a 4x12 VERY cheap. It was painted black (Dear God, WHY????) and I'm having success removing the black with Goof-Off. SO far, so good. My question: It has the square-mag Eminence's in it. They don't sound bad at all! This is the 3rd Orange cab I've owned, and they've all been Eminence-loaded. Must have been common for export to US, huh? But, what are these things rated at? was thinking of swapping 2 with Weber 50wt Silver Bells. Are the Eminences around 50 wts? They seem to push a lot of bass, BTW.
Any help appreciated.

I've heard both 50 and 75 watts for ratings on these speakers. Don't know which is true.

Mucho thanks, Twang. Well, at least they're 50 watts or so. That was my best-guess. Probably won't be a power mis-match with the Webers, anyway.
They don't sound too bad I thought.

Still could use help. Anyone have definitive info/data on the Eminence's in the Orange cabs? Mine have a date code of 7451, which I understand means late December 1974. Serial Number of cab is:
4254. I'm assuming these are original speakers. And, is my date assumtion correct?
Any thoughts appreciated. BTW, kill the next person you catch repainting ANY Tolex-covered cab black. Or, confiscate the cab, or both. Thanks again for the earlier help, Twang.

Another guy on this board just bought a cab identical to yours, black paint and all! Maybe they are long lost brothers...

Anyway, try contacting eminence with your speaker codes and see if they can tell you the wattage. They told what my '76 SVT 10's were rated for.

Yeah, the long lost twins, mine is a '74 and black paint, square Eminences and sounds pretty dern good. I kinda like the black look, but it will come off, the cab is in otherwise too good a shape to be not orange. So the Goof Off works? Come spring I will try that, cause the paint isn't too thick. I guess made for export Orange cabs in the '70s had the particle board backs, shipped empty and loaded in the US. Its not an English cab with the G12H-30s but I'm stoked on it. The English ones may have had one or two more ply as well

The Orange Amp Field Guide has some info on Eminence Field Guide on Eminence

I have talked to the folks at eminence and they say "75 watts" each.

S/A007A, EDBIG, Whateverman:
Thanks. Called Eminence. Anthony in their Shop thought 75 wt rating was most likely. They sound basically (no pun) good; push a LOT of bass frequencies easily. Anyway S/A, yeah, Goof-Off's Graffitti Remover worked, buy man, the odor will make you kill! The wife wouldn't let it in the house for 2 days after spraying. Used Vanilla Extract on it to counteract the stench. Still have some black in the crevices. Trying Painter's Pal and also Goo-Gone with a toothbrush, but it's REALLY slow going. Will be awhile to it's done. Grill Clothe was a lost cause, will need to replace it.
