who makes the best replacement echoplex tapes?

Some like 'em and some don't, but I bet everyone has at least a couple — Analog Delay, Digital Delay, Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tube Overdrive, Transistor Overdrive, Fuzz, Octave Fuzz, Tremolo, Vibrato, Compressor and the list goes on!

Check out Fulltone ... I've never used his but I've heard good things about it. $27 shipped isn't too bad, I'm guessing.

hey BMF,
look on ebay for the ones from Mike Battle; I got a couple and am very happy. I'm also gonna order one from fulltone, too; a good deal at that price.

dunno if the tape is the same (i could guess...) as used in the Roland Space Echo, but i use the lubed 1/4 tape they sell in every Radio Shack!!! it's like $200 and you get like... 300 meters or someting!

it works fine in my space echo... hope it works for you! it's cheap, reliable, and easy to find.

good luck, best wishes,

Pat.

If you've got the cassette, then just rewind it with whatever tape suits. Nothing too hifi.

It's very easy to rewind a tape. Just be careful what tape you use. I've tried some reel tape years ago but the back did not have the slip agent, graphite or whatever that is on tape designed for looping. They would bind up very shortly after loading. I remember in the 70s the radio stations had like 1/4" loop cassettes they used for commercials etc. Old 8 tracks have that back that will keep from binding if you can find them.

Just cut the tape loop and splice new between the capstan and cartridge and let the plex draw the tape in then splice in the same vacinity or temp splice for feed. The important thing is to not allow any drag in process. Tape has to have the same tension or the loop will be shorter causing a bind. You can also remove cassette and do it the same way by hand. Make sure tape record side surface is on head side also.
