????? W-B..................... Interesting ! My 1960 Blonde Twin has the markings on the inside..........W-H !!!

Couldn't find any date codes that followed Fender codes. Amp is SN# 84 and the tape label inside reads " LAB" !

It has the 45268 OT.................like the High power Tweed Twin.

Quite likely one of the first 4 ohm OT tranny experiments.

All other dating characteristics say 7/60 and 8/60......."SUMMER OF 60 "

Looks like your serial number fits within the range for '61:

I assume the rubber stamp was from someone who serviced it in the 24th week of 1968?

Hmmmm. I have no idea, then. Hopefully, someone more versed in Fender history can comment.

RG2468 (24th week, 1968)
RC3566 (35th week, 1966)

What you say makes sense.

Thanks again, Dave

Yes, those are service date stamps. Yours has speakers from 1972 and 1975, an OT from 1973 and a choke from 1962.

I thought the Choke was from 1961 and the PT from 62. It could be the Power transformer is not original, who knows. I'm going to check the pot codes.

This does not question the '61 build date for your amp. It was just to mention that all of the components are not original to this amp. The choke was made during the 25th week of 1961.

I don't think you have to "demod" the the amp if it works fine and sounds good. The chassi is drilled anyway. The amp is cool as i see it. Someone with knowledge have added the reverb and not messed with the tonestacks. Nice with a 125P5B PT that was only in use for a short time. A capjob is needed, especially a new bias cap.
I wouldn't normally like an added reverb to a Brown Fender as I have some Browns myself.
But I can't help it, I like this amp.

Super 5G4, 6G4, 6G4-A (brown)
00001 to 02400 – 1960
02300 to 05100 – 1961
49000 to 58000 – 1962
58000 to 59200 – 1963

That serial number...0423...is good for 1961. As noted, the OT is from 1973...the part number 02xxxxx indicates that. The 02xxxxx codes came into use in 1966, iirc....maybe 1965. The speakers are definitely non-original...from '72 and '75 as noted. Nice amp, but it does not fit into that excellent condition, all-original classification.
Re: reverb....as long as the PT can stand up to the current demands of the extra two noval tubes, I say let it ride. Who doesn't need a bit of reverb? +1 on the recap and general service.

Thanks everybody for your kind help.

I haven't post before because work and daughters didn't let me one free minute. Lately I've been gathering some info about brownface super amps. It's surprising how much this Fender amp changed in just three years. As far as I know, the first production run was January 1960, JA (with just a bunch of amps of this first batch with metal knobs). The Pulse Adj on the back panel lasted till production run 3 (approx). Production 6 had already the ext. Speaker option, that's for sure.

The cabinets had the sharp edge and pink tolex from JA (Jan 1960) until aprox JK (nov 1960).

I suppose that when the Super reverb went into production, the 60-63 Super didn't last too long. In fact l haven't seen a 63 March-June Brownface Super Amp yet.

Hello

I´m still trying to choose the right speaker for this amplifier. I have some options:

a) - Get used to the CTS speakers that came with it (both CTs are from 1972-1975)
b) - Two Weber 10F150 speakers I have here at home
c) - Put some Celestion G10 Gold Alnico Speakers (I already have one of these wonders).

What do you think it would work better? I don´t want the amp to get any louder and I´m happy with a clean Fender sound so early breakup is not what I´m trying to achieve.

Are these old CTS alnico Speakers from the early 70´s worth keeping?
