Weird Bandmaster

Postby Lordmike on Wed Jul 05, 2017 3:45 pm

Hey everyone! I've read your forum forever but have never signed up but today I discovered something odd about my amp that I'd like to figure out. I use a Bandmaster Reverb that I've used since I was 13 (37 now). The stars aligned when this amp was made because it is the greatest amp I've ever played. I was really blessed because it's all I've ever used and I got it for mowing a dude's lawn. People have always commented on how great it sounds. I always assumed it was a 73 because of the cab and the missing tail on the Fender logo. The serial number is long gone but I just checked the transformers and they all date from 63-65. Why are the transformers so old? Where did they come from and is that the source of my mysterious golden tone? Answers and speculation are appreciated. Thanks!

Post pictures and transformer serial numbers.
Or link to pictures

So you read 606-65-XX or 606-63-XX on your transformer ? A '73 amp transformer will read 606-73-XX

If yes, CBS use often the old parts on the shelf to built their amp.
For dating amp we must look a the less older parts, not the older. A amp build with 1963 pars and 1973 parts is a 1973 amp not 1963

Fender build Bandmaster Reverb from 1968 to 1980

It will also be helpful to post the model codes from the trannies. Listing prefix 125xxx and/or 022xxx.

BR did not exist until 1968.

Mike, welcome! Post some pictures of the amp - chassis shots especially and report back on the transformer codes verbatim and someone around here will help out.
