Bassman 6G6B clone made in Europe

Postby augur44 on Wed May 03, 2017 12:19 pm

Hi everybody !

After playing for years on an Hiwatt 50w 1x12 combo & Orange OR120, I'm very much interested in a Bassman 6G6B type of amp.
I can find off course clones from Marshamps or others made in US which seems to be made of very high quality.
But importing this to Europe with freight, customs taxes etc. will cost close to as much as a vintage one...

I found a new manufacturer of clones based in Portugal : https://www.facebook.com/belairamps
I'm based in France and go regularly to Portugal for holidays so I could pick one amp easily.
Price is only around 1000€ and can be found on the bay too : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bassman-Amp-6G6 ... SwopRYfO4B

1) What do you think about boards and amp he is making ?

2) I have been asking a multitap outpout tranny so I can use a 8 ohms cab I already have at home.
He told me a Hammond would be better in this case. What do you think about it ?

This builder is a pro.
The amp is very well built with quality caps and resistors.

Wiring s and wires are like original Bassman. Nice lead dress too.
Hammond Transformer are one of the best on the market, it is a Canadian made transformer since 1960 or before.

Congrat about this nice amp.

Any picture of the face plate and more :D

The only con; look like missing some solders on many eyelets.
Some look empty or it is the picture ? :(

Hi! Thank you for your message!

This is just pictures of an amp he has been working on, not my amp yet.
It is not finished I think, this is why it may miss some soldering.

He seems to know what he is talking about as he has been repairing bassman amps for 9 years.
He is doing his own wood cabinets.

Price seems very affordable.

He will order Hammond output transformer with multitap for me.
I have been asking for a Tuxedo style head.

Yea, this guy is good. I like the heater wires pulled up like he does. I do that too now. I learned it from a guy who builds just as nicely as this guy. With my first SLO 100. I was wary about using parallel heater wires but it turns out, on an engineering level, the parallel wires cause the same hum cancellation as twisting them. I never thought of pulling out and up. Most sources tell you to tuck them in close to the chassis. But with the SLO there is so much gain, it probably doesn't matter. I certainly am not going back to change them but I would think about it if I build another.

Use of good components is a necessity. Have fun with your amp!

That looks very tasty. Nice tightly-twisted heater wiring, too. 8)

Pedro is currently making the cabinet of my 6g6b clone.
He makes everything on his own, with European Pine Wood.
