I would like to thank you Ken, for enterainting our sometimes ridiculous questions. I would also like to say that you guys created a monster back then and my life would not be the same without the amps. I look forward to reading more of your posts! :D

Happy New Year Ken & everyone...I do have a general question on production tubes back in the day..

What brand tubes would have typically been loaded in the typical '66-68 period Marshall chassis...exclusively Mullards (of whatever branded label) that were on the shelf ?

Were there any deviations from loading the std. 12AX7 for preamp tubes ? like maybe a 12AT7, etc ?

Just curious what brand tubes actually went into the new amps as they left the factory in the 60's.

Regards -

This sounds strange as i sound like an ancient profit but "In the Beginning" Mullard`s were only used unlike now many makes are still s available.

The pre amp tube line up has always been the same.

Hope that this helps.

Hello Ken, I give you my late welcome to the board:

I have one quick question to make which is something that always puzzled me, there are stories about a prototype being built when marshall transitioned from two output tubes to four output tubes. It is said, this includes books like "the book of tube amps" that say that a model with 4 6V6 output tubes was build and tested before being discarded for being too low in output.

I'm wondering if you know anything about this? Or if you could confirm that this prototype did exist, if you can remember it, obviously.

thanks for all the info.
